Elicitor Activity of Curdlan and Its Potential Application in Protection of Hass Avocado Plants against Phytophthora cinnamomi Rands

Phytophthora cinnamomi causes one of the most important diseases in avocado crop and its chemical management represents 25% production cost per year. Induction plant defense responses by elicitors is a promising strategy that compatible with sustainable agriculture. This study aimed to evaluate effect curdlan application on induction plants against P. cinnamomi. The trials were conducted under greenhouse conditions, leaf spraying was performed day before inoculation pathogen. results showed elicitor significantly increased protection cinnamomi, decreasing injury wilting. Curd + Phy treatment improved defenses increasing enzymes peroxidase (POD) polyphenol oxidase (PPO) first 3 h after superoxide dismutase (SOD) phenylalanine ammonium lyase (PAL) 144 (p < 0.05). Also, chlorophyll carotenoid content or remained stable treatment. Therefore, these suggest increases could be due an increase activity related phenylpropanoid pathway as well carotenoids.
